Day 3 (Africa) Building...Well Sorta!

Posted

Hmmmm.....Day 3!! I'm still like 2 days behind on the my blogging. Hopefully today i'll be all caught up. I just got done with Day 1 of the event. Don't you wish you knew what happened already?? haha You have to wait. All i can tell you is that God moved!! :)

K so (QUESO! haha I'm dumb.....So we were supposed to build ramps all day today, but there were a few MINOR difficulties. Well, there were a bunch....We didn't have the right tools, we didn't have power, the ground was like a cheese grader so it was pretty much impossible to ride on. All we had was a pile of wood. Pretty discouraging considering that the event was 2 days later and we were in a stand still.

(Zac, Vic, John Adventure)So Vic, John, and I decided to take a trip downtown since John hadn't experienced it yet. We flag down a taxi and after a few minutes of explaining that we wanted COFFEE we were on our way. :) We cruised downtown for another Bourbon Coffee experienc.. Yum Yum!!It was crazy cause grips of people rocognized me from the day prior when i was skating and sharing with the people!! It was a cool feelings. The people we're psyched. So we got our coffee fix, i bought some Cadbury Chocolate, and we just wandered the city for a bit. When we were ready to head back i tried and tried to get the boys to ride a motorcycle back but they wouldn't. The BMX'ers were too scared...I was ready for an experience. Bump me off the back, get squished between cars, or do a wheelie the whole way. C'mon guys...Step it up! :)X

(Back to Hotel/Work)I don't really want to write too much about this so i'm gonna post a few videos from the SkateMissions.com.

(End of the Day with Emmanuel) So as soon as we were done for the evening we started walking back and Eman came up to make asking for Uli. He made it very clear that it was important. I was like...dang man, chill!! haha I went and grabbed Uli for Eman. They went and chatted. In the mean time i was upstairs with all the boys just goofing off and talking about the day then **BOOM** the door flys open and in came Uli and Eman. Eman was in tears. Uli shared with us that since Eman had met us on the street and saw us sharing Jesus with the crowd it make him think about his life. Eman is a really good looking clean African man to the eye. On the inside he was homeless, lost his job, lost parents in the genocide, and his big problem was Alcohol. All he had was his brother Justin. Justin was Emans everything. We chatted with Eman for a good hour. By the end of the night we all were praying and crying in joy because Eman gave his life to Jesus and was completely transformed. Praise God! This stuff is no joke guys. The heavens rejoice when even 1 soul is transformed. Its just a reminder as to why i do what i do...I'm not the best speaker in the world. As a matter of a fact..I suck! But I LOVE PEOPLE!! :) My heart breaks for them. So this was an amazing Ender for the day!

Again, so blessed to be here! Keep praying guys...We'll take as many as we can get. Big things happening...Stay tuned!!

Love you guys!!

Zac :)X

Day 2 (Africa)

Posted

So this blogging thing is really fun but frustrating. haha I'm trying to make my page super dope, but i'm so picky that i can't keep myself happy. So any suggestions will be accepted. :)

So Day 2.....Elijah and I slept in for a bit which was nice. After getting ready...Uli, Elijah, and myself decided to go into town to look for a battery for Uli's camera. So we packed up...brought my backpack and my skateboard. Definitely was looking forward to this. We got a cab...Let me remind you that the language barrier is huge so very few words are understood. So after help from our hotel receptionist to help translate....well, we were on our way. Not sure exactly what to expect but was excited all the same. Anyone who knows me will tell you that i'm a huge risk taker. Even if i know there is possible danger or isn't the smartest thing to do. I just like being spontaneous.

(City Demos) Its funny cause I stood out like a SORE SORE SORE thumb. Other than the fact that I'm white AS, i was wearing a neon green shirt had sunnies on and basically looked like a rockstar to these people. So everytime i would step on my board i'd draw a huge crowd in seconds. So of course i'm not going to let them down. I'd do a few tricks, Uli would pump up the crowd, and Eli didn't have to do anything cause he is "RHASTA" haha. The crowd was cheering, clapping, and just having an amazing time. So after a few dumb tricks I'd tell them about Jesus. I'd point in the AIR and say JESUS!! They'd repeat. I showed them my Sumner Cross board and they'd cheer. These people love Jesus. After doing 3 or 4 small demos and sharing with the people we found ourselves being followed by this cute lil girl that was missing an arm, a mom with a baby, and a guy that was helping us out with translating named Emmanuel. **Side Note**every Kilgali person that i got close to and met had amazing names. Ex)Innocent, Amazon, Christian, Emmanuel, etc...

(New Friends) After getting aquainted with the girl with 1 arm, the mom and the baby, and Emmanuel. Uli decided to take them to eat and feed them. The little girl lost her arm in the Genocide. She was soooo beautiful and sooo shy, but when she smiled I honestly was so broken inside with Joy/Confusion on as to how this little girl that lost her arm and is homeless was soo content and happy.
The mom and the baby was soooo entertaining....well, at least the baby was. So we were just chatting with the mom and she was holding the baby and the baby would sling shot his arm in her blouse and pull out here BOOB. With the attitude like "THATS MINE WOMAN"...I Swear to you he'd look at me and would say with his eyes "Huh, don't you wish you had a TEET?" haha The kid was sooo funny....Also while we were eating he grabbed a knife off the table with his toes and started playing with it. He was trying to cut off his toes...no doubt! This kid was insane. Check the picture...don't let this kid fool you! HE is a terrorizer!
Emmanuel didn't eat....He was just volunteering his time to help us translate. He is such a humble, mellow dude. I really liked him...So after sharing with everyone and telling them about Jesus and letting them know that we have been blessed so we can bless others showing them the love of Christ we went on our way. (Stay tuned for more on Emmanuel)

(BOURBON COFFEE)So the whole trip people were telling us about this AMAZING coffee place called "bourbon coffe". Supposedly it is world famous. After we left our friends we went on another adventure/walk and found this mall. This mall was very similar to a mall you would find in America. We went inside and saw this grocery store similar to a wal-mart. It had everything and was open 24/7 and lo and behold next to the grocery store was the infamous "Bourbon Coffee". We were psyched. We sat down and ordered a coffe and some food. I ordered a vanilla bean frapp thing and a bacon cheesburger. While we were sitting we were observing our surroundings and realized that Bourbon was just like starbucks. All kinds of people were in there....Felt like home!

(MOTORCYCLE RIDE HOME)It was time to go home....Instead of taking a taxi, Uli suggested going back on a motorcycle. Yeah, those things that weave in and out of traffic, fall over, jump curbs, and freakin' look scary AS!! Welp, you know my answer...I AM IN!! Especially since my goal before the end of the year is to buy a motorcycle somehow. haha **If anyone wants to pitch in to help me get a motorcycle it'd be appreciated** We gather the bikes and let the drivers know where we are going and not to lose eachother cause it would suck if one of them decided to peace out and go on a joy ride. ha We made it back after some gnarly break checks, driving wrong way in traffic, tipping over, and lots of screaming and sweat. haha I rode 1 handed the whole way cause i was filming...soo funny! There was a couple times i thought i was going to fly off the back.

(AFRIKA BITE) 7:30 Rolls around and we get invited to go to eat with our friend Rick that was in charge of making the rocky ground that we have to skate on in the demo smooth. haha NOT HAPPENING, that ground is haggard!! Anyways, he invited us to go eat @ this restraunt called Afrika Bite...Supposed to african food. We get a taxi and go. It was in the middle of no where. Can't explain it...Super sketchty. I orderd beef stew. Waited 1hr 30min for our food...While waiting we heard a story about this lady turning into this tiger after this African man tried to get fresh with her. I guess thats common that spirits out here called Phantoms do stuff like that....I was dillusional...soo tired! Got my food and was pumped out of my mind. SOoo good. We left and got back and I crashed hard.

SOrry this post is scatter brained! I'm being very ADD. This has taken me 2 hours to do cause i've been very lazy/distracted.

Love you guys!

Zac
